Confession: For the past three days the B in Capitol B has stood for Bedridden. I’m sick. In that I-want-my-Mummie, wearing-a-pink-terry-sweat-suit-to-the-doctor, have-some-cheese-with-that-whine kind of way.
In the event that you happen to find yourself sniffling, sneezing, aching, stuffy-headed, and feverish with no Mummie in sight, I have compiled a survival kit to help see you through the worst of times.
If you’re going to be ordered to bed rest, you need a comfy bed. The kind that you could be confined to for days and still feel posh and nurtured. For me, it’s the king-size Sealy Posturepedic Special Reserve Collection Nurture Point Ltd. Memory Foam Ultra Flush Euro Pillow Top Mattress and coordinating box springs. Don’t forget the 600 or higher thread count sheets and organic cotton pajamas.
The well-stocked bedside table must contain the softest possible tissues (Kleenex with Lotion), purified water, and Tylenol Cold & Flu. You’ll also need a bedroom telephone extension and wireless network for your laptop functions. I recommend keeping the ringer switched to off and the laptop fully charged.
Since no properly designed bedroom houses an intrusive television set, you’ll need the laptop for watching cartoons, movies, and keeping up with news from the outside world. You can’t go wrong with old Scooby Doo, Harry Potter films, Gilmore Girls, and You’ve Got Mail. For your reading pleasure, the key is to occupy the mind without overtaxing it. Think Fierce Pajamas, OK! Magazine, and do try to keep up with Capitol B. See my Amuse Bouche section for other fun ways to pass the time.
I never figured out the whole feed a cold, starve a fever, or whatever, so I say fluids and comfort food, and keep it coming. Amy’s Low Fat No Chicken Noodle Soup, Idahoan Instant Mashed Potatoes, Numi Organic Jasmine Green Tea, and Simply Orange 100% Pure Squeezed Pulp-free Orange Juice with Calcium are my sick bay staples.
Many thanks to all of you who have been wishing me well. I hope to be out of the bunny slippers and back in my strappy sandals any day now.
